Specialty services for survivors with trauma history

EMDR

Specialized trauma therapy adapted for neurological changes

What We Offer:

  • Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy modified for brain injury survivors experiencing PTSD, trauma, anxiety, or distressing memories related to their injury or life changes.

  • Neurologically-informed assessment to determine if EMDR is appropriate based on your unique brain injury profile, seizure history, and current symptoms.

  • Adapted EMDR protocols that account for cognitive changes, processing speed differences, memory challenges, and sensory sensitivities common after brain injury.

  • Integrated approach combining EMDR with psychoeducation about your brain, grounding techniques, and executive function support as needed.

  • Careful monitoring throughout treatment with adjustments for fatigue, overstimulation, and neurological considerations.

Why Brain Injury-Specific EMDR Training Matters:

Brain injury survivors face unique risks and needs during EMDR therapy. Standard EMDR protocols may need modification to prevent seizures, manage cognitive fatigue, accommodate processing differences, and address both trauma and neurological symptoms. Our therapists have specialized training in adapting EMDR for the neurological changes that follow concussion, TBI, stroke, and other acquired brain injuries. We work hard to ensure safe, effective trauma processing that works with your brain, not against it.

Note: EMDR may not be appropriate for all brain injury survivors. We'll discuss your injury history, current symptoms, and treatment goals to determine the best therapeutic approach for you.
